For spring/summer 2013 pop superstar Rihanna is launching her second collection with highstreet favourite River Island. Now RiRi fans can pick up some summer style courtesy of Rihanna with plenty of different styles to choose from there is something for everyone’s taste. The last collection she created with River Island was a huge success and sold out quickly, hopefully this collection will follow suit.
Talking about her latest fabulous collection she said:
“I just wanted stuff that I wanted to wear because at the end of the day that’s what got me into designing – seeing things on the rack that were great, but that could have been a little more me. Maybe they could have been a little longer or shorter, or have a little more sex appeal or a little less. I wanted to make clothes for fat days; stuff that I want to wear. I was being selfish. Hopefully, my friends and people who shop at River Island will have the same taste.”
If you watch the video below, you can hear what she was trying to create with this collection and her inspiration.

The geometric patterns introduced in clothes by Louis Vuitton and Prada are the highlights of this trend. The use of high belted overcoats, long sleeves, mid calf hemlines and patterned suits is prominent. Contrast collars and large embellishments are also part of this trend.

The androgynous theme will be a strong fashion trend. The style elements include slouchy trousers, button down shirts, men’s style coats, blazers and overcoats. Velvet is a key fabric. The styles were seen in clothes by Paul Smith and Sacai.

The clothes by British designers are inspired by the animal print. Mixing and matching different prints are the common element in this trend. Burberry have given these traditional elements a sophisticated, modern look.

Each year brings new fashion trends with fresh and lingering styles. Based on the patterns, designs, cuts and colours in recent fashion runways, Fashion Snoops, an online forecasting service predicts five style trends for Autumn/Winter 2013-2014.
The top theme reference for the Autumn/Winter season is Dark Romance. Style elements include high necklines and capes with transparent maxi silhouettes. The colours are based on jewels tones and a moody palette, and materials such as lace, sheer, and luxe velvet are used. Clothes by Gucci, Givenchy and Bottega Veneta incorporated these styles.

This trend is an expression of the Renaissance. Needlework in the form of baroque motifs, gold embroidery and stained glass patterns are the key elements. These are paired with quilted leather jackets and velvet pants. The Balmain and Carven clothes range showcased this style best.

This year’s shoes have been designed to shine. Heels are mirrored and even flats are sparkly. Top-end designers led the way on the catwalk, teaming glitter, mirrored panels and patent leather with the platforms and block heels that have been in vogue for a few seasons now. The basic rule is: the more glamour, the better.
The Great British High Street has quickly picked up on the trend, brands such as London Rebel and Krush defiantly have glamour covered and retailers producing their most glittering accessories season to date. This is not just a look for Christmas parties; it is definitely set to last throughout this year at least.
Although they may look like an indulgence, these statement heels are a solid investment. Teamed with classic tailoring or simple styles, killer heels are the key accessory of the season and will complement and lift any outfit. Whether worn with opaque tights in chillier months or with bronzed legs in the summer, a pair of courts or shoe boots brought up to date with sparkling finishes will win fashion points throughout the year. For this season, glittering feminine shoes are a girl’s new
best friend.
In the 90s, mothers were ridiculed by daughters for looking so staid in their neat pencil skirts; now, daughters everywhere are raiding the wardrobes of mothers for them. Coupled with dainty floral patterns, ladylike is back. It has been picked up by the highstreet so you can get feminine styles from Miso at Republic, plenty of girlie dresses and skirts in soft fabrics.
With spring in sight, prints and applique in delightfully feminine colours are competing with the bolder looks that have been dominating headlines over recent months. They are also scoring points in the battle of the fashion public’s favourite trends. Whilst not everyone can imagine themselves in some of these ingenious metallic creations, the pretty designs and pristine tailoring shown at fashion weeks across Europe are easy to relate to.
These designs are by no means dull though – far from it. Rather, the intrigue is in the exquisite detail within the garments and in the way in which they inspire a sense of romance and femininity in those who wear them. Following on from the success of period dramas in television and film, they pay homage to times when women were encouraged to exude femininity and this continues to resonate today. Having a successful career and multi-tasking throughout the day as par for the course does not mean that today’s women have shed the desire to feel attractive.
What this trend has achieved is to highlight the aspects of those classic clothes that became so iconic through modern heroines like Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe, and make them both practical and accessible for today’s diverse women. If a little bit of floral print and an awful lot of tailoring can have such a profound impact upon feeling, then spring cannot come too soon.
