Tartan has long been a favourite in the fashion world. This type of pattern can be worn in many ways, from the most formal occasions to more casual styles for everyday use. Many women love to wear tartan, although it is most popular with women of Scottish or Irish descent.

Fun Tartan Accessories

Many women choose to use a more understated look with tartan by wearing an accessory with tartan fabric. Tartan scarves have been popular for many years, and remain a popular fashion accessory. They are especially attractive when worn with sweaters or other knitwear products. There are also caps and other types of hats made from tartan fabric. You may choose a driving cap similar to those worn by men, or a warm winter hat with earflaps. Other popular tartan accessories include bows that look good with longer hairstyles.

Everyday Items

There are numerous tartan items available for everyday wear. Many are well suited to office wear. Blazer-style jackets made from tartan fabric are always a winning choice during the cold weather months. This style looks good when worn with a collared shirt, sweater and plain skirt. Some women like trousers that feature a tartan print. Since these are particularly bold, they should be worn with shirts or sweaters in plain colours. A tartan skirt is always a good addition to any wardrobe. Many women prefer the longer, straight style commonly associated with traditional highland dress. Others may prefer shorter skirts, commonly known as mini-kilts.

Formal Occasions

Tartan is good for many formal dress-up occasions. There are several types of events where tartan is suitable. Some brides who are of Scottish ancestry choose to use their family tartan as part of their wedding dress. This is especially ideal when the groom wears full Highland dress. The tartan skirt should feature a matching sash with a brooch that features the family’s clan crest. Regardless of the event, the right tartan should be chosen. One should choose their family’s tartan, if available. If not, some other tartans like the Black Watch or Irish National may be appropriate.

Count on tartan to keep you warm this winter as age-old plaid gets a new lease of life in this season’s autumn-winter collections. Designers have worked the tartan micro-trend into everything from dresses to coats, scarves, jackets and bags. It is clear that denim has been usurped by plaid as the new essential in one’s wardrobe.

Tartan Gets a Twist

Tartan gets a new look this season in unexpected colours like electric green and pink, not the kind that has traditionally been seen. Plaids this year are big and bold, a celebration of the energetic spirit of this year. Hounds’ tooth and Prince of Wales checks feature in a number of collections, with styles ranging from retro Sixties to contemporary powerhouse. This season also features a spin on the way tartan is worn, with designers going for the doubled-up look; plaid jacket plus tartan dress, or tartan shirt plus plaid trousers to give a twice as nice effect.

Trendsetters and celebrities have embraced the tartan trend, accessorizing with heels and the right hair and makeup to create a stunning overall look. If head-to-toe tartan is not your style, however, you can still incorporate the look by wearing an oversize tartan scarf with jeans, or opting for a hounds’ tooth skirt and sheer blouse. Tartan is versatile enough to be combined with other fashion pieces and lends itself easily to a variety of different styles.

This winter, Highland checks and bold squares are in, so fish out those plaid jackets and scarves and make your style statement.

If you create your own design easily done on your computer now you can use t-shirt printing to create your own individual look.

plain t-shirt

You may have a favourite album cover or poster, or a awesome picture from a gig all can be used for you to create your own personal design that no one else will have, ideal way to support your favourite band if you go and see them live. They also make great present ideas for someone who loves music. You can have them printed on a range of clothing from t-shirts to vest tops and hoodies.

This new and funky trend is now beginning to become more visible on the High Streets with shops including Tights Please, M&S and Debenhams Department store selling them.

I’ve been looking around and found the Tartan Tights displayed on Tights Please to be the best value at £7.99.

My plan is to wear them to a party I’m going to later with a knee height black skirt and black top, this will ensure that peoples attention is firmly centered on my new tights. If you were going for a punk look, some boots and some ripped denim would be awesome.

How would you wear them?

Scotland’s National has a vital role in the variety of tartans available these days. This is a special tartan because it can be worn by any Scottish. Even though there are no restrictions on the kinds of tartans a person can wear these days, there had been restrictions on the same earlier. These kinds of tartans are known for their commonness and the unity of the country. This Scotland’s National tartan has been used as the most popular tartan in the country and this is also the reason that it has been known as Scotland’s national.

The Scotland’s National uses the colors dark and grey blue, black, ancient green, dark red and white. The perceptions of these tartans have changed now and they are more of a fashion statement. Hence these tartans don’t have to kilts and sporrans, which should be worn with knee high socks and bagpipes. Even though these look fabulous at an appropriate occasion, there are more uses of the Scotland’s national tartan. Most of the tartans available in retail outlets are not related to any official clan and these days designers are using their own color combinations for making these tartans more appealing and wearable for the users.

The tartan is a form of fabric that can be woven in any number of materials. This flexibility of the material allows the easier composition of this fabric in different forms and hence can be tailor made as per the demand of the users. How a person will look and feel in the Tartan differs according to the fabric. But along with the other considerations like price while choosing these materials, it is also vital to choose the right material. This choice of the Royal Stewart fabrics would also depend on how you intend to use it.

Some of the colors that are commonly available or seen in these Royal Stewart fabrics include the colors red, black, yellow, blue and green. Most of these colors are given in find blend with red being the most prominent one. The combinations of these colors are there to accentuate the Tartan and ensure that wearing the same makes the wearer enjoy each of these to the utmost. All of these Royal Stewart materials are available in medium weight, light weight and heavy weight. Apart from this there are many other styles available in the same for the convenience and style reasons of the users.

The Affara tartan has been one of the more classic tones of tartans available in modern times. This tartan has been used in modern times for making fashion statements since it is also available in versions apart from pure wool. The use of the pure silk Affara tartans has been prominent in the fashion industry and the traditional wool tartans are still used for making bottoms like trousers, skirts and kilts. These Affara tartans use bright shades of blue, green, yellow and black, which are arranged in the prominent checked shaped fabrics. The Affara tartan has been very popular with both men and women.

The Affara tartan is available in the spring weight materials along with heavy and light weight options too. The Affara tartan has been a popular option for day wear and formal wear, but is not suggested for furnishings and other related purposes as it uses deep colors, which may give the home a duller appearance or tone. The Affara tartan is also available in the custom woven range, which remains a popular option and is not priced more than the regular ranges available. The Affara tartan has been made from pure wool, though pure silk versions are available for the users who are allergic to the wool.

The Adams tartan is very similar to the traditional green colored tartans available in the market but uses more colors to make the fabric brighter. The Adams tartan has been made from both fine and pure wool and even silk or it can also be customized as per the requirements of the customer. The Adams tartan has different styles and textures but ensures that the base colors remain constant. It is these base colors which actually contribute to the difference of this tartan from others and thus gives it a different appeal. The green color is ideally suited for various occasions and can be worn during the evening and the morning times for both men and women.

The colors used in the tartan include green, royal blue, dark red, dark brown, light grey and black. Thus this fabric has been given colors that can be used for kilts, trousers, shirts, skirts, shirt dresses and various other styles also. The Adams tartan can also be made to order and a material apart from wool or silk can also be used, with the costs going up higher for customized fabrics. However this bright colored tartan includes a fine blend of all the above shades for creating a spectacular tartan.

There have been many kinds of experimentations with the tartans over the years and new hues and colors have been used successfully in this reference. The tartans like Aberuchil are some of them, which have experimented with different shades and colors to create a much brighter appearance for tartans these days. The Aberuchil has been made from the bright shades of green, dark purple, orange, mauve purple, olive brown, etc. The colors of this shade are idea for creating a bright hue in the tartan, which can be worn for day wear.

These colors are finely blended in the tartan and are excellent for creating a different shade of green. These tartans are not very easily available and hence they have to be tailor-made or can also be ordered to be woven. The tartan can be made from pure silk or pure wool, or even from a mixed blend of fabrics. These can be worn as shirt dresses for women and in shirts for men. Even trousers can be made from this tartan, even though the use of the same in kilts has been restricted to special occasions. This Aberuchil fabric is available in both light weight and heavy weight options too.
