Summer wedding

For women there are a few handy rules and tips to bear in mind when looking for an a perfect designer women’s wear outfit for a wedding, by following these you should be able to find the perfect outfit for the day.

Style

The style of dress you choose can depend on a couple of factors, body shape and body size, you need to remember not everything looks the same on everyone so make sure you choose a dress that flatters your figure not one that accentuates you bad bits.

It’s also helpful to keep in mind for a wedding that you should not go for something OTT you don’t want to be competing with a bride on her big day for attention, you need to go for a look that is subtle and smart, because you will be photographed and no one will want to remember you in a bright garish dress.

A n appropriate dress length also is required, luckily maxi dresses are in this season so if you’re not comfortable bearing your legs you don’t have to, but if you are happy to show some leg just keep in mind not to show too much so avoid miniskirts and mini dresses.

Accessories

Weddings can be a great occasion to wear a hat but this is one area you don’t want to go overboard, remember it’s not Ladies Day at Ascot so some large creation will probably not be appreciated. If hats don’t suit you, you can always opt for a simple fascinator, cute headband or a pretty slide.

If you have some lovely pieces of jewellery then a wedding can be a great place to show them off, especially if you don’t always get much of an opportunity normally, but as with everything else we have mentioned here this is another area not to go over the top in. A simple necklace, diamond earrings and a thin bracelet is all you need to finish off an outfit.

Designer Sunglasses

Many people whose budget cannot stretch to a full designer outfit are choosing to accessorise with designer label items such as handbags and sunglasses. Many of the top fashion houses have their own range of designer sunglasses including Chanel, Chloe and Yves St Laurent.

Sunglasses have a minimum quality standard to ensure they filter out most of the sun’s harmful rays and so protect the eyes. Buying a designer label is a guarantee that your eyes will be protected and that you will be purchasing a well-made pair of sunglasses, giving the consumer peace of mind.

Sunglasses should be an essential part of anybody’s accessories, particularly during the summer months. Those who need prescription sunglasses will find that they are still able to have designer frames, and that their optician can create the lenses required to ensure that your eyesight is corrected. If a prescription pair is required it is advisable to have an eye test to ensure that your prescription is up to date, otherwise you could be paying out for glasses that are no longer suitable for you.

As designer goods are frequently targeted by those selling fake items it is a good idea only to purchase from an authorised retailer. This way you can be sure that the item you are buying is of good quality and that your eyes are properly protected. There are several online retailers who sell good quality designer label sunglasses at reduced prices, so purchasing during a sale is always a cost-effective option.

Donna Karan studied design, but left college without completing her course in order to become an assistant at Anne Klein, a design firm. The following year she launched Donna Karan New York with a collection aimed at working women.

She specialised in basic wardrobe items that every woman needs. In 1989 she launched DKNY, which offered a designer name at reasonable prices, making it affordable for the working woman who does not earn a six figure salary. Her ‘Essentials’ line added to the success of the brand, offering the consumer a basic collection of items that every wardrobe should have, such as bodysuits, jackets and jeans.

Donna Karan clothes are worn by many famous names including Barbra Streisand and Hillary Clinton, while her menswear collections are favoured by the likes of Richard Gere and Warren Beatty. The fashion collections are supplemented by home furnishings and body care products such as perfume.

Changing up your hairstyles

Sometimes you may feel like you’re stuck in a hairstyle rut, with the same look day in, day out, if your not due for a visit to the hairdressers just yet why not do what the celebs have been doing recently and just give your everyday style a changeup. Recently on the red carpet celebrities such as Taylor Swift and Scarlett Johansson have swapped the red carpet curls for sleek, smooth tresses, giving them a completely new look, by just basically straightening their hair with ghd hair straighteners.

It’s not just the celebs who are moving on from the celebrity curl, many designers feature poker straight locks with centred partings on their runways shows and modelling campaigns. The shiny healthy looking locks are a big hit and great for summer, you just have to make sure you treat your hair with care when styling to avoid frizz and unglamorous split ends. To do this make sure when you are blow drying your hair you use a protection spray such as ghd thermal protector, this stops the heat from your hair dryer and irons from damaging your hair and can help reduce split ends.

After you have straightened your hair with your ghd straighteners, finish of with a smoothing serum to give your hair a super shiny gloss finish.

Colour blocking fashion trend

Picked up on last year colour blocking is set to be a big trend again this year, looking at the spring/summer 2010 catwalk trends. Acid brights and garish bold pattern are also a huge trend this year so you can defiantly see that bright colours are defiantly in designer women’s wear.

Colour block

Colour block

Colour blocking is a separate trend to the bold prints that we have seen flourish this year, as the name suggests you need to go for block colours in the basic hues, red, blue, yellow, pink, green and so on. With this trend experimenting in clashing colours is encouraged to make a statement but do remember to keep it simple, not too many fussy shapes or too many accessories.

If you’re not quite brave enough to clash your colours, try opting for colour blocks in the same tonal family or mix and match colours with white and black.

London Fashion Week

London Fashion Week has much to offer the fashion industry. It is an annual event that is attended by fashion professionals. The venue is Somerset House, with several function rooms being given over to the various shows.

London Fashion Week is part of a fashion marathon, with shows taking place in New York, Paris and Milan too. The weeks follow each other, so the world’s press go from one to another to report on the collections that are being presented. The theatrical approaches of the designers ensure the interest of the rest of the fashion world.

The 2009 event was the 25th anniversary of both the event and the formation of the British Fashion Council. Designers that regularly take part include Caroline Charles, Betty Jackson, Jasper Conran, Vivienne Westwood and Nicole Farhi, amongst others.

The 2010 event ran from 19th to 24th February, when the overall style moved away from the eccentricity of previous years, favouring more elegant designs. The retro feel that some collections have had in the past had also disappeared, and the overall emphasis appeared to be on a more feminine style.

The event was overshadowed by the untimely and tragic death of Alexander McQueen, but the collections that were presented had the desired impact, giving the London week a serious edge that met with the approval of all watching. The front rows of the shows were filled with celebrities like Kate Moss and Elizabeth Hurley. The reviews that followed in the media were probably the most positive they have ever been.

Add some volume to shorter hair

If you have shorter hair, perhaps a slightly grown out bob or a length just above your shoulders you will probably feel curls won’t work however there are other styles that you can create using your ghd hair straightners to give your hair some oomph. By adding some volume and creating some flicks, you can give your hair a whole different look.

1. To achieve the best results you need to blow dry you hair as well as applying ghd thermal protector, the thermal protector will give your hair protection from the heat of the hairdryer, reducing split ends and minimising damage. As you dry your hair use a round brush to add volume in at the root.

2. Section off your hair into two by placing your thumbs above your ears and drawing a line around your head until they meet, section off the top part of your hair with a clip.

3. Place your ghd straightener in at the root and slowly glide down your hair careful not to pull on it then when you reach the ends flick out away from your head. Continue this method throughout the rest of your hair.

4. For the top section follow the same method until you reach the ends here you want to pull the styler under to create a smooth finish.
